Attorney Tracy Kornac Show cause hearing January 5, 2026
On January 26, 2026, I drove to Yesterday I drove to Allegan County to attend the Show Cause Hearing for court-appointed conservator Tracy Kornac.
Notably, Charlie LeDuff and one other journalist were the only media present. We are also journalist in our own right. I am a journalist with the International press and Jody White and Shannon Mutter-Tanis freelance for a local paper. Outlier Media
After the hearing, we went directly to the clerk’s office and obtained the entire court file. What we found raises serious and deeply disturbing questions.
📌 A court-appointed conservator (Kornac) billed $2,900 to change the estate plan of an incapacitated person.
Let that sink in.
This raises two unavoidable questions:
A) Why is a court-appointed conservator—essentially a legal stranger—changing the estate plan of a person after they have been declared incapacitated?
Once capacity is lost, estate planning is supposed to stop. Courts are meant to preserve an incapacitated person’s wishes, not rewrite them.
😎 How does a conservator charge $2,900 to “change” an estate plan herself—using estate funds—while also acting as the fiduciary?
That looks like double-dipping at best and self-dealing at worst.
The billing shows:
• $1,950 for a “single trust package”
• $950 for a so-called “stand-alone Special Needs Trust”
All approved and paid after incapacity.
This isn’t a gray area. It cuts straight to the heart of:
• fiduciary duty
• conflicts of interest
• exploitation of incapacitated individuals
• and the unchecked power of court-appointed professionals
Families are told probate court exists to protect vulnerable people.
But documents like this show how easily it can be used to control, alter, and profit from them instead—often with little oversight and even less accountability.
This is exactly why public scrutiny matters.
This is exactly why transparency matters.
And this is exactly why people like Charlie LeDuff showing up—when no one else will—matters.
If this can happen here, it can happen anywhere.
